Rivers State Concern At Dwindling Funds Allocation Inbox

Lagos — RIVERS State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has raised alarm over the dwindling federal revenue allocation to the state which he said had dropped by more than half, resulting in a struggle to pay some salaries.

The allocation, he said, had plummeted from N25 billion to N12 billion.

Speaking at a forum in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Amaechi said the situation had become so critical that the state government already owed workers' salaries and was unable meet its obligations to contractors.

"I am still looking for funds to pay some of the contractors and salaries. Things are no longer the same.

" Things are getting worse. I am not the problem, it is from the Federal government," Amaechi stated.

Amaechi noted that the situation had slowed the pace of some on-going projects his administration had embarked on.

"The situation we find ourselves now is really critical. We have started owing salaries of workers and nobody knows when this will end.

"Rivers people should know that Rivers State Government now receives 12 billion Naira instead of the usual 25 billion Naira as monthly allocation. This has grossly affected our projects and work has stopped in some ongoing projects in the state."
