Champions Kano Pillars beat Crown FC 3-2 at home yesterday to stay on course for a third straight Nigeria league title.
Pillars, who have now recorded 53 points, got their first goal through Isaac Loute in the 14th minute.
The club's leading scorer Adamu Hassan doubled the lead with a 44th minute strike to end the first stanza 2-0. He has now scored 12 goals.
Crown FC came back into the game with an early goal in the third minute of the second half through Onyekachi Okafor, who headed home Ike Chukwujekwu's cross.
But on-form Azeez Shobowale increased Pillars lead to 3-1 in the 72nd minute.
Two minutes later, Nedum Francis scored Crown's second goal.
Warri Wolves shot to second place after they beat Akwa United 2-0 at home.
Wolves forward Abu Azeez was sent off in the 55th minute for a second booking.
Wolves now have 49 points, four points behind leaders Kano Pillars.
Enyimba also climbed a spot up after they fought back from two goals down to beat visiting Sharks 5-2 in Aba.
Mfon Udoh bagged a brace for Enyimba.
However, the title hopes of Nasarawa United suffered a major setback after they fell 3-1 at El Kanemi Warriors.
Malik Demba netted a brace for El Kanemi. He gave his side the lead in the 33rd minute, and seven minutes later, he doubled the lead.
Nasarawa United's man of the moment and leading scorer Ugo Leonard scored his side's only goal of the day in the 40th minute to end the first half 2-1.
Ugo Leonard now has nine goals this season.
