Minna — German Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Zenner, said yesterday that his country is willing to assist Nigeria to solve its electricity problem.
Mr. Zenner said this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the German Technical Partner (GIZ) and Niger State government, for improving electricity in rural areas.
The ambassador said his country was not only willing to assist in boosting electricity supply, but also in solving the problem of gas emission.
He said there is need for the country to go into renewable energy technology, which according to him is best suited for the electrification of remote areas.
Responding, Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu said Nigeria requires 35,000 megawatts of electricity to attain stable power supply.
Governor Aliyu said presently, the region receives 5000 megawatts of electricity and that it is grossly inadequate.
He said shortfall in the supply of electricity in the country is affecting the growth of small scale businesses.
