Govt Restores Power to Maiduguri

Abuja — THE Federal Government has restored power supply to Maiduguri and environs following the conclusion of repair works on the vandalised 132kv Biu- Damboa- Maiduguri line.

According to a statement by Olawale Rasheed, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of State Power, the reconnection was concluded early Monday.

"Engineers and technicians of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) have been on the repair works for the past one week. Full security protection was provided by the Nigerian Armed forces while the repair works lasted," he said.

Rasheed said the Minister of State Power, Mohammed Wakil, restated the commitments of the Federal Government in addressing the electricity needs of the North East and Nigeria in general.

"The long period of power outage is over. We apologise for the long time it took for the reconnection to be effected. It was due to the very difficult security situation in the affected environment. Let me assure you all that security is beefed up around power installations across Borno state and the North East. This is to forestall reoccurence of such vandalisation in the future," the minister said.

He also commended the staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for the reconnection and the military for providing the required security.

"I commend the TCN staff in Bauchi region for effecting the reconnection and the military authorities for providing security assistance. We should all remain vigilant," the minister said.
