Abuja — THE President of a faction of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ambassador Chris Giwa, Monday vowed to stop the September 4 polls slated for Abuja by another group led by Aminu Maigari.
The proprietor of Giwa FC of Jos has also threatened that his board would deal decisively with any person or persons behind the proposed election.
Speaking on arrival at the Glass House, where he has been operating from contrary to a directive from world soccer governing body, Giwa accused candidates who, according to him, failed at the polls that brought his board to office, of championing the proposed election. But he vowed that it would never happen.
According to Giwa, "It will never happen. We will not and I want to repeat, we will not allow anybody to mess up with FIFA, CAF and NFF statutes. No matter who the person thinks he is.
"Where is it done that you would organize an election after one week when we have the statute giving us a mandatory period of time.
"The congress sat sometime in November 28, 2013, and agreed that there will be election on August 26, 2014. But somebody just woke up to tell us he wants to conduct election because he lost the election. No, it will not happen."
On the continued absence from office of general secretary, Musa Amadu and other members of the federation's management staff since he assumed duty, Giwa said: "I don't want to believe that Musa Amadu is not working with my board and it is not true that he is not working with my board.
"I talked to him after our election last week and I asked why he has not been around in office, but he told me he was not feeling well.
"When I asked him what he wants us to do, he told me that we should deal with Bola Oyeyode in anything that has to do with his office.
"You will agree with me that all these are politics. Somehow and somewhere, it is obvious that personal interest has come into the matter. But it is expected because transition period is always like that. What I want to assure you is that it is for a moment."
Giwa said the FIFA letter instructing his board to vacate office today was based on misinformation fed the world body by some stakeholders, 'who do not mean well for Nigeria.'
"It is true that we got a letter on Friday last week, and as I stated in my press release, I want everybody to be calm but we are going to make our position known to FIFA.
"I want to reassure Nigerians that I am confident FIFA will not sanction us. I know that FIFA is not an unbiased organization, but one that would listen to both parties and take the right decision. This will be the last hurdle we will face and we shall overcome by the Grace of God."
"I urge all Nigerians not to listen to those that would want to bring their personal interest into the game. In no distant time, we are going to have a new face of football in Nigeria. Let me reassure Nigerians that FIFA will speak in a few days time."
