Kenya: Controversial Kenyan Movie Wazi FM Released

WAZI FM, a controversial Kenyan movie that seeks to highlight the plight of Somali refugees in the country has been released.

The film, which showcases Kenyan actors/actresses among them Nairobi Half Life star Joseph Wairimu, House of Lungula's Lizz Njagah and Rugged Priest's Ojiambo Ainea, was screened for the first time on Wednesday at a courtesy event in Westlands. The Cultural Video Films produced movie has, however, elicited mixed reactions from film enthusiasts and critics with some expressing fears that it may banned while others praises it.

 

The film revolves around the life of MoMo (Mahad Ahmed), a Somali urban refugee living in Nairobi's Eastleigh area, where he runs a community radio station with his Kenyan friend Kevo (Joseph Wairimu).

 

Everything is going well at Wazi FM until the team stumble upon a dark secret in their community and MoMo vanishes. An inspector from the Kenyan Special Forces is trying to understand what really happened before MoMo's disappearance. It involves cases of terrorism, corruption and implications from the Kenyan police.
