Why Jonathan May Not make Formal Declaration

Given unfolding scenarios and growing endorsements for the return of President Goodluck Jonathan to the Aso Villa seat of government, come 2015, Nigerians may not have to wait for an elaborate open-declaration ceremony by the President.

What is certain, however, is that Jonathan will make all the necessary political statements when collecting his form, from Wadata House, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat.

Following the many groups endorsing him to join the 2015 presidential race, an elaborate ceremony may, after all, not be held, but picking a form for the presidential contest is no doubt a certainty.

With few months to the 2015 General Elections, the tempo of political activities gathering momentum for the return of Jonathan to the Aso Villa has been enormous, despite the fact that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to lift the ban on campaigns, as stipulated by the Electoral Act.

Politicians and interest groups under various nomenclatures, such as support groups and Non-Governmental Organisations, have not hidden their desire to continue rallying support for the President, whose intention to re-contest for the highest office in the country is yet to be made formal.

Some of such groups canvassing for Jonathan have gone as far as raising money to pay for the expression of interest form for the President, while other groups are taking mobilisation to all the six geo political zones of the country, collecting signatures, in their interest in having the President run for a second term
